Safety devices stop or reverse a gate when something is in the way. When one fails, a gate may refuse to close, reverse at random, or worse, stop protecting anyone. We connect you with local pros who repair, align and add photo eyes, safety edges and vehicle loops.
Sound familiar?
- Gate won't close, or reverses with nothing there
- Photo eye indicator off or blinking
- Safety edge damaged or torn
- Gate closes on cars or objects
- Older gate with few or no safety devices
- Vehicle loop not opening or holding the gate
What a gate tech typically checks
- Photo-eye power, alignment and wiring
- Safety edges and their connections
- Loop detectors and loops in the drive
- How the operator responds to each device
- Whether the setup suits the gate's risk areas
Before you call
- What the gate does wrong, and when
- Any lights on the sensors
- Whether anything has been hit or moved
- Whether kids or pets use the driveway
Questions
Can I just unplug the sensor so the gate closes?
No. Bypassing safety devices removes the protection that prevents serious injuries. Clean and check alignment, then call a pro if it still won't close.
What is UL 325?
UL 325 is the U.S. safety standard for gate operators, covering things like entrapment protection. Newer openers are built to it. If your setup is older, ask the pro whether it's worth upgrading the safety devices.
